The best part is that no prior meat marination is required in this case and it is a simple way to make a delicious curry at home! My mom makes this at home and it is surely a comfort food for me. If you are a mutton lover, you should try this. Here are the list of ingredients required:

Mutton – 500gms

Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tsp

Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp

Salt- 1/2 tsp

Mustard Oil- 1 tsp

Curd- 2 tbsp

Ghee- 1/2 tbsp

Red chillies- 2

Bay leaves- 2

Cinnamon sticks- 1/2

Cardamom- 2

Onion- 2

Mustard Oil- 1 tbsp

5-6 cloves of garlic

Green chillies- 2

Red chillies- 2

Ginger- 1/2

Potatoes- 2

Tomato- 1

Curd- 2 tbsp

Water, as required

  1. In a bowl, take the mutton- add curd, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, mustard oil and mix together.
  2. Add this in a pressure cooker for 1-2 whistles, depending on the quality or texture of your mutton.
  3. In a pan/kadhai, add the ghee, bay leaves, cardamom, cinnamon sticks, red chillies and cook for 2-3 minutes. Then, add 1 sliced onion and cook till it becomes translucent. Keep this aside in a bowl.
  4. In the same kadhai, add mustard oil, cloves of garlic, green and red chilli. Cook well for 5-6 minutes and then add another sliced onion. Stir till the onion turns brownish and transfer this to a mixer.
  5. Make a paste with the ingredients and keep it aside.
  6. Now, in the kadhai, add the potatoes and fry it for 5-6 minutes. Add the paste prepared above and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  7. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric and coriander powder at this step and mix again.
  8. Now, add the mutton from the pressure cooker to the kadhai and cook on medium flame for 8-10 minutes.
  9. In a mixer, make a paste out of one tomato and 3-4 tbsp curd. Add this to the gravy for an elavated flavour.
  10. After mixing everything, add the fried onions from the 3rd step and cook well.
  11. Let the mutton cook and dry up. Add water at the end, if needed.
  12. If your mutton is still tough at this stage, you can add all the contents of the kadhai to a pressure cooker, cook is for 2 more whistles and then your mutton is ready!
